One Saturday afternoon, a group of eleven people, ages 14-50, met with me, for what was our 1st practice session. As a choreographer, I suggested the 1st steps of the dance. When I saw the performing, I must confess that I felt tears building in my eyes ( and they were no tears of happiness). however, I did not stop... and neither did they.
Four months later, we had our 1st official performance at Agnes Scott college with our opening acts: Bambuco, and a Cumbia.
And the following day came our second performance the Colombian Independence Day celebration at the Nikko Hotel. I thought this dance group project would only be for these special occasions, but I was so wrong, The response of the audience was so overwhelming and welcoming, that I didn't give it a second thought, and well... here we are.
After hundreds of performances(all very dear to me), I feel that must mention one that was a highlight in our group's existence, our participation in the Centennial Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games of 1996 here in Atlanta. Of course at the same time in our hearts, we will always thank all of the people who have shown us their warmth and gratitude for each and every performance that we have made in Georgia and in states such as Alabama, The Carolina's, Florida and Tennessee.
Our Dance group has received numerous recognitions, such as the first Colombian Award, and the Excellence Award by La Vision de Georgia newspaper.
Through these words I would like to thank all the people that have been with us, to those that for different reasons have left the group, to their families and support, to my friends and to my beautiful family in the United States of America and Colombia.
